Looking to buy Orange Rili Shrimp online? Orange Rili Shrimp are patterned freshwater Neocaridina known for bright orange sections contrasted by translucent or clear areas through the body.
Their broken-color pattern gives them a very different look from solid-orange Neocaridina while keeping the approachable care, peaceful temperament, and freshwater breeding behavior that make Neocaridina popular with both beginners and experienced shrimp keepers.
Choose your preferred quantity using the product options above this description.

Orange Rili Shrimp are selected for a broken orange pattern rather than continuous solid coloration. A typical Orange Rili shows strong orange sections around the head, tail, or both, separated by translucent or nearly clear areas through the middle of the body.
Pattern placement and intensity naturally vary from shrimp to shrimp. Genetics, age, sex, lighting, substrate, and aquarium background can also affect how vivid the orange appears.
Orange Rili Shrimp are Neocaridina and generally perform best when water chemistry remains stable rather than being constantly adjusted. The ranges below reflect our Neocaridina systems.
| Parameter | Our Tank Range |
|---|---|
| pH | 7.0–7.8 |
| GH | 7–8 |
| KH | 3–4 |
| TDS | 200–250 ppm |
| Temperature | 65–74°F |
| Ammonia | 0 ppm |
| Nitrite | 0 ppm |
Avoid sudden changes in pH, temperature, hardness, or TDS. A fully cycled aquarium with mature biological filtration and consistent maintenance matters more than chasing one exact number.
For more detail, read our Neocaridina Shrimp Water Parameters Guide.
Orange Rili Shrimp should be introduced to a fully cycled aquarium with stable water quality. Mature tanks also provide more biofilm and microorganisms for constant grazing.
Plants, moss, wood, leaves, and aquarium-safe rock increase natural grazing surface and provide cover during molts. Dense moss is especially useful for newborn shrimplets. Browse our live aquarium plants when building a shrimp-focused setup.
Sponge filters are ideal for many shrimp tanks because they provide gentle water movement, biological filtration, and extra grazing surface without exposing baby shrimp to an unprotected intake.
Orange Rili Shrimp spend much of the day grazing biofilm, microorganisms, soft algae films, decaying organic material, and small food particles. Supplemental feeding becomes especially useful in cleaner aquariums or larger colonies.
| Food Source | Role in the Aquarium |
|---|---|
| Biofilm | Important natural grazing source in mature tanks |
| Soft algae films | Frequently grazed from hardscape, plants, and glass |
| Shrimp foods / wafers | Useful supplemental nutrition for established colonies |
| Botanicals / leaves | Add grazing surface and slowly decomposing organic material |
| Blanched vegetables | Optional occasional supplemental food |
Feed conservatively and remove excess food before it begins to affect water quality. Browse our shrimp food and botanicals for supplemental feeding options.
Orange Rili Shrimp reproduce completely in freshwater. Mature females carry fertilized eggs beneath the abdomen until fully formed baby shrimp hatch directly into the aquarium.
A strong breeding setup includes stable water, mature filtration, textured grazing surfaces, dense plants or moss, consistent feeding, and very low predation pressure.
For a broader colony guide, read our Neocaridina Shrimp Breeding Guide.

Different Neocaridina colors can generally live together peacefully, but they can also interbreed. Mixing color lines may create less predictable offspring and can increase wild-type traits over later generations.
If maintaining a consistent Orange Rili pattern is important, keep the breeding colony separate from other Neocaridina color morphs.
Orange Rili Shrimp are peaceful. Snails and other non-aggressive invertebrates are commonly compatible, while some small peaceful fish can work in heavily planted tanks. However, nearly any fish may eat baby shrimp if the shrimplets are small enough to fit in its mouth.
For maximum breeding success and shrimplet survival, a dedicated shrimp tank is the safest option.

Shipping water can differ from your aquarium in temperature, pH, GH, KH, and TDS. A gradual acclimation process helps reduce stress while the shrimp adjust to your aquarium.
Follow our Freshwater Shrimp Acclimation Guide before releasing new livestock.

Yes. Orange Rili Shrimp are a patterned Neocaridina color variety with orange pigmentation separated by translucent or clear areas.
In the aquarium hobby, Rili describes a color pattern where strongly pigmented sections are interrupted by transparent or lightly pigmented areas of the body.
Our Orange Rili Shrimp are approximately 1/2 to 1 inch and are sold at breeding age.
Yes. They are generally beginner-friendly when kept in a mature, fully cycled aquarium with stable water chemistry and appropriate mineral content.
Our Neocaridina systems run around pH 7.0–7.8, GH 7–8, KH 3–4, TDS 200–250 ppm, and 65–74°F. Stability matters more than chasing exact values.
Yes. Their entire reproductive cycle occurs in freshwater, and mature females carry eggs until fully formed shrimplets hatch.
The Breeder Pack includes 10 breeding-age Orange Rili Shrimp with approximately 7 females and 3 males.
Orange Rili Shrimp have orange sections interrupted by translucent or clear areas, while Orange Sunkist Shrimp are selected for more continuous solid orange coloration. Both are Neocaridina with similar basic care.
Yes, but the two Neocaridina lines can interbreed. Keep them separate if maintaining a predictable color line is important.
They can live with some small peaceful fish, but fish may prey on newborn shrimplets. A dedicated shrimp tank gives the best breeding and survival rates.
They graze on soft algae films and biofilm, but they are not a complete algae-control solution. Proper lighting, nutrient management, filtration, and maintenance still matter.
Not always. If room temperature keeps the aquarium consistently within a suitable range, a heater may be unnecessary. Stable temperature matters more than adding heat to an already appropriate environment.
A mature biological filter is strongly recommended. Sponge filters are especially shrimp-friendly because they provide gentle filtration and extra grazing surface.
Orange Rili Shrimp combine beginner-friendly Neocaridina care with a distinctive orange-and-clear pattern that stands apart from solid-orange varieties. Choose the pack size that fits your aquarium and start or expand your colony today.

Shrimp arrived quickly and there were no DOAs. After a couple weeks in my tank they are thriving. Very happy with my purchase.

Great colors on these, very pretty

Bought 8 shrimp individually and I chose my specific colors I wanted. I was sent 10 and unfortunately one orange rili didn’t make it, but I am very satisfied! Was packaged nicely and the rest are very active. I did get a random small baby, not sure if it was an accident or if I had a pregnant shrimp.

Love my shrimp they arrived safely and healthy had no problems Thanks for the shrimp!!!!!!

All of the shrimp arrived live and well! There were even a few extra in there and they all survived acclimation. I especially like the orange rili shrimp because they have such a wide variety in their pigmentation, making each shrimp unique and fun to look at. The picture I included shows some of the extremes of pigmentation on either end of the spectrum (ignore the isopod, this isn’t about him), but the majority of the shrimp are more in line with the photo on the website.

Was surprised they all made it safe & sound, survived the night too, idk if people are not having the correct water set up before arrival or what but I’ll def be ordering again. Zero issues!

Pretty happy with the cost and fast shipping. Some of the rili were clear, but most are a nice quality. Would definitely buy again.

My shrimp tank is a big hit with my whole family, especially the grandkids. I’m considering upgrading to a larger tank so I can add more “colors”.

This is the 4th order I have gotten from shrimp up and still has not let me down. The packaging is great and the shrimps arrive alive and healthy and are already breeding. They are so fun, easy to care for, and so pleasing to look at. Highly recommend this company! Will be buying more in future. Shrimp I have gotten from them: cherry, orange rilli, and skittles.

So cute and fun to watch. Great packaging and no deaths upon arrival. In fact, they had babies!!! One of them is so fun because it actually hangs out on my hand.

Shrimp arrived in 3 days, but I had to keep them in the bag one more day as I was setting up a work tank. I ordered 10 and received 11 adults with some bonus tiny shrimplets. Despite the extra day all 12 survived and are good looking too.

They all arrived alive and are doing great! They sent me plenty of extras as well just in case. There was a minor shipping delay but they responded to my inquiries in a reasonable time frame and order shipped exactly when they said it would.

Some happy buddies, 10 on the button, all arrived alive, if a bit chilly. After drip-acclimation they are scooting around and grazing. Will be grabbing another breeder pack for sure.
Adam S. 5/5
We’ve had good luck with our breeder pack! Although communication about shipping was slightly confusing .. they arrived a week and 2 days after we ordered them. They got here (mostly) alive , the shipper was nice enough to ship extra so we ended up with 11 live when the the pack is supposed to contain 10, bonus points for that! They are very lively and fun to watch explore, would recommend for sure!

Great service from ShrimpUpAquatics. I was worried because I ordered unaware of an approaching winter storm for the Midwest. They took care to wait out the worst of and sent my package very well insulated with sawdust. Hand warmers/heat pads may have killed them! I ordered five Orange Rili but received 9 or 10 including a very egg filled female. Only one was DOA, rip little buddy. I drip acclimated in a black bucket in low light to avoid stressing them so it was hard to count/see the exact amount. But after two days in the tank I’ve been able to count 8 out at one time. They look great although a few are mostly completely orange as can see in the photos and some orange and black. I’m not sure if this could be due to where they are in their molt but overall satisfied with the shrimp. Their health means more to me than appearance and given their activity I’d say they are solid in that regard. Will order again.

We ordered 5 skittles and 3 orange rili and 3 red and blue rili. They were a little small at first and we did lose one in transit, but there were additional shrimp in the bag. I think my favorite was the lone “ghost/snow” shrimp. We have enjoyed watching them. We are setting up a new tank for just shrimp, in the hopes of having babies and shrimplets, and will be purchasing our breeder packs from shrimp aquatics.

Everyone came safe and sound and looked so vibrant and healthy! Adjusted very well to the tank and has been having a great time making friends with the other shrimp that were already there. The orange rilis remind me a loot like creamsicles or little orange-and-white cats with their patterns and colours and I love watching them skitter around!

ShrimpAquatics has the best customer service! Thomas really gives individual attention to us nubbies! My shrimp came to me in a lively group and they are so much fun to watch in my tank. My Betta tried to be king of the roost, but the little guys are wicked fast. The Betta has now backed off, lol he got bored.

Incredibly well packaged despite the box looking dropped on its corner by the delivery carrier. I think the impact killed the freebies, so I was sad at loss due to their carelessness. A few didn’t make it overnight but the surviving ones are doing well and keeping my tank looking cute. I’ll definitely order again and just hope ride isn’t as bumpy next time.

They sent me 11 but one was in 2 pieces. So ended up with the 10 I ordered. Will buy again.

Shrimp arrived in good condition. A couple days later there was one dead shrimp in the tank so pretty successful batch. Two are already carrying eggs. I'm excited to see the population grow.
