Mixed-color Neocaridina molt for the same reason single-color shrimp do: they must shed the old exoskeleton to grow and renew it. Juveniles generally molt more frequently than mature adults because they are growing faster, while adult molt timing varies with age, temperature, nutrition and reproductive cycle.
There is no useful rule that every shrimp in a mixed tank should molt on the same exact schedule. A healthy colony naturally contains individuals at different stages.

Why Shrimp Molt
The exoskeleton cannot expand indefinitely. Before a molt, the shrimp prepares a new shell underneath the old one, sheds the outer layer and then hardens the new exoskeleton using minerals from its body and water.

How Often Should You Expect Molts?
Small juveniles can molt on a relatively short cycle as they grow, while adults may go weeks between molts. Temperature and metabolism influence the pace, so a warmer tank can produce faster biological activity than a cooler stable tank.
Do not raise temperature just to force more molts. Faster metabolism is not automatically healthier and can shorten the interval between life-cycle events.

An Empty Shell Is Usually Good News
A clear shrimp-shaped shell on the substrate is normally an exuvia, not a dead shrimp. It often splits behind the head where the animal escaped. Leave a clean molt in the aquarium unless there is a specific reason to remove it; shrimp may graze on it and recycle minerals and biofilm.
Why Shrimp Hide After Molting
The new exoskeleton is initially softer. Freshly molted shrimp often seek cover until it hardens. Plants, moss, wood and caves provide useful shelter, especially in a community aquarium.
If a female molts when sexually receptive, males may become unusually active as they detect chemical cues. That behavior can precede mating and a berried female.

What Causes Molting Problems?
Repeated failures can be associated with unstable water chemistry, abrupt TDS or hardness changes, inappropriate mineral balance, poor overall health or other stressors. The classic white split behind the head is sometimes called the ring of death when a shrimp cannot complete the molt.

Water Changes and Molting
Large changes in water chemistry can coincide with molts, which is one reason shrimp keepers often blame the water change when problems appear afterward. The solution is not to stop maintenance; it is to keep replacement water reasonably matched and changes predictable.

Do different colors molt at different rates?
Color itself is not a reason for a different molt schedule. Age, growth, temperature, reproductive stage and individual condition matter more.
Should I remove every molt?
No. Clean exuviae can usually stay in the tank.
Can a shrimp die during a molt?
Yes. A failed molt can be fatal, especially if the shrimp cannot escape the old exoskeleton. Repeated failures should trigger a water and husbandry review.
