Salvinia Minima Water Spangles – 60+ Live Floating Leaves

Add natural floating cover with live Salvinia Minima, commonly called Water Spangles. Each order includes 60+ live leaves, creating an easy starting portion for freshwater aquariums, shrimp tanks, planted nano tanks, and breeding setups.

Salvinia Minima floats at the water surface, where its paired green leaves spread across calm areas of the aquarium. The hanging underwater roots provide additional structure for shrimp and fry while the floating mat creates shade and a natural-looking surface layer.

Why Use Salvinia Minima in an Aquarium?

  • Natural surface cover for shrimp, fry, and shy aquarium inhabitants.
  • Floating growth requires no substrate or planting.
  • Hanging roots create extra grazing and shelter area.
  • Easy to thin and manage as the colony expands.
  • Great for shrimp tanks where biofilm-rich root surfaces are valuable.

For a layered shrimp aquascape, combine Salvinia with rooted and rhizome plants from our Aquatic Plants collection.

How to Grow Water Spangles Successfully

Place the plants gently on the aquarium surface with the upper leaves facing upward. Salvinia performs best when the top surface of the leaves stays relatively dry and the plants are not constantly pushed underwater by heavy splashing.

Moderate surface movement is generally preferable to strong turbulence. Thin excess growth as needed so the floating plants do not completely block light from plants below.

Salvinia Minima for Shrimp Tanks

Water Spangles are especially useful in shrimp aquariums because their submerged root structures create additional grazing zones and shelter. Shrimp often explore the roots for biofilm and fine food particles.

The green floating canopy also contrasts beautifully with colorful shrimp such as Fire Red Cherry Shrimp.

What You Receive

Your order includes: at least 60 live Salvinia Minima leaves. Because floating plants divide and branch naturally, the exact number of individual plant clusters can vary even when the leaf count meets or exceeds the listed amount.
