Pack Size

Assorted Nerite Snails are colorful freshwater aquarium snails selected for a mix of striped, spotted, banded, red, gold, brown, black, and olive shell patterns. They are peaceful, compact grazers that spend much of the day working across glass, rocks, driftwood, and hardscape.

Available pack sizes: 3, 6, 12, or 24 snails.
Assortments are selected from available stock. Exact colors, patterns, species mix, and shell markings will vary, and every pack may not contain every pattern shown.

Why Keep Nerite Snails?

Excellent natural grazers
Frequently browse algae and biofilm from aquarium surfaces.
Freshwater friendly
Well suited to established freshwater aquariums with stable water chemistry.
Peaceful tank mates
A good fit with shrimp and many small, non-aggressive community fish.
No freshwater population boom
Nerite larvae require brackish or marine conditions to develop, so they do not establish multiplying colonies in normal freshwater tanks.

Assorted Nerite Snail Care

Care Level Easy to moderate
Adult Size Typically about 0.5–1 inch, depending on type
Temperature 72–78°F
pH 7.2–8.2
GH 6–12 dGH
KH 3–8 dKH
Diet Algae, biofilm, and supplemental algae-based foods when natural growth is limited
Temperament Peaceful

For healthy shell growth, keep nerites in mineral-rich water with adequate calcium and avoid prolonged exposure to soft, acidic conditions that can erode shells. Mature aquariums with established algae and biofilm are ideal.

What Your Assortment May Include

Assorted packs may contain a rotating mix of common nerite color and pattern types such as zebra-style striping, tiger or racer-like markings, spotted shells, olive tones, red or orange accents, gold or yellow shells, and darker banded varieties. Selection changes based on availability.

Feeding

Nerite snails are best known for grazing aquarium surfaces, but an aquarium should not be kept completely spotless. If algae and biofilm become scarce, supplement with algae wafers, spirulina-based foods, or other snail-safe foods. Remove uneaten food before it fouls the water.

Tank Mates

These snails do well with freshwater shrimp and many peaceful nano and community fish. Avoid aggressive snail-eating fish and animals that may nip, crush, or repeatedly harass snails.

Breeding & White Egg Capsules

Female nerite snails may leave small white egg capsules on rocks, wood, glass, or equipment. These eggs do not develop into baby snails in a standard freshwater aquarium because the larval stage requires brackish or marine conditions.

Acclimation

Match temperature first, then acclimate slowly to reduce sudden changes in pH and mineral content. After introduction, place the snail upright against a hard surface. Nerites sometimes remain still after shipping while they adjust.

Important: Never use copper-based medications or treatments around snails unless the product is specifically confirmed safe for invertebrates. Maintain stable, dechlorinated water and avoid sudden parameter swings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I receive the exact snails shown in the photo?

No. The photo represents the type of colorful assortment you can expect. Shell colors, patterns, sizes, and exact mix will vary.

Do nerite snails reproduce in freshwater?

They may lay eggs, but their larvae do not complete development in normal freshwater aquariums.

Are nerite snails safe with shrimp?

Yes. Nerites are peaceful and are commonly kept in shrimp aquariums.

Do I still need to feed them?

Yes when natural algae and biofilm are limited. Supplementing helps prevent starvation in very clean or newly established tanks.
