Curved spines and abnormal development can have multiple causes, including genetics, developmental problems, nutrition, injury, disease, and poor environmental conditions. Extremely soft or unstable water can add physiological stress, but raising GH cannot reverse every deformity and should not be promoted as a guaranteed cure.

If spinal deformities repeatedly appear from the same parents, examine breeding genetics as seriously as water chemistry. Select healthy, straight-bodied breeders and keep records rather than repeatedly pairing visibly compromised fish.

How to adjust GH and KH safely

If hardness is genuinely low, use a measured remineralization product and increase values gradually. Record source-water GH, tank GH, KH, pH, and the amount of product used so the next water change is repeatable. Avoid large corrections that make one maintenance day chemically different from the next.

Also remember that the biological basics still come first: ammonia and nitrite should remain at 0 ppm, temperature should be stable, and filtration should be mature. Perfect GH cannot rescue an uncycled aquarium.
